Cross Country Takes Top Honors At Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas - For the second consecutive week both Baylor's men's and women's cross country team's finished in first place. The Bears took top honors here Saturday at their own Baylor Invitational.

"That was the second weekend in a row that both our men and women have won," said BU cross country head coach Todd Harbour. "I don't think we have ever done that. We did an outstanding job and it was a good performance from both sides."

The men raced to a first place finish scoring 31 points, 13 points ahead of second place finisher Tulsa. BU had four runners finish in the top-10 as Ferenc Bekesi placed second (25:14.40), Matt Chance finished third (25:29.00), Nick Devenport came in fifth (26.01:10), and Jason Baker rounded out the Bears top-10 finishers placing seventh (26:08.40).

The Baylor women also took top team honors racing to a meet-low 42 points behind three runners who all finished in the top-10. Kara Newton paced the Bears for the second week in a row placing third (17:39.00) in the 5K race. Stephanie Bennett was the next BU finisher taking fifth (18:00.60), while Candice Kolb rounded out the Baylor top-three placing 10th overall (18:18.20).

The Bears will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 29 when they travel to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the Auburn Invitational.
