WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's basketball staff has added two new members, director of basketball operations John Marczak and video coordinator Brian Walsh, head coach Dave Bliss announced Wednesday.
"Our basketball program has reached a point where we needed to add some quality personnel to our staff in order to sustain our commitment in the Big 12," Bliss said. "To this point, Baylor has been understaffed compared to the other teams in the league, but just as our administration has helped improve our facilities, these additions will allow us to improve the productivity of our program. These staff additions will most benefit the program in the areas of community involvement and improved fundraising."
Marczak, the new director of basketball operations, will be charged with promoting Baylor basketball through students, campus groups, camps, and the Fast Break Club.
"John is a valuable addition to our staff, who has experience at both Syracuse and Denver," Bliss said. "He will add new ideas, particularly in respect to electronic advancements."
Marczak comes to Baylor from Denver University, where he spent the 2000-2001 season as an assistant to head coach Marty Fletcher. Prior to that, he spent two years as an administrative assistant at Syracuse on Jim Boeheim's staff.
Walsh will fill the role of video coordinator on the Bear staff, and his duties include all video exchange and scouting of videotape, as well as community relations work.
"Brian brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to our staff, most recently with the New Mexico Slam of the CBA/IBL," Bliss said. "His professional background will enhance our staff."
Walsh spent the last two seasons with the New Mexico Slam of the CBA/IBL. Originally the Slam's associate head coach, Walsh was promoted to head coach following the IBL-CBA merger, and led the team to a 10-15 record over the season's final 25 games. Walsh spent eight years coaching high school basketball in New Mexico prior to working in the IBL.
