WACO, Texas - With Danielle Crockrom having an off night, freshman post Steffanie Blackmon provided a glimpse of what may be Baylor's future Sunday afternoon as the 12th-ranked Lady Bears cruised to an 81-56 win over Boston University at the Ferrell Center.
While all-America candidate Crockrom scored "only" 11 points and was held in single-digit rebounds for just the second time this season, Blackmon set a new career high with 15 points and added nine rebounds to lead Baylor in that category. Sheila Lambert, the second of Baylor's two all-Americans, led the Lady Bears with 19 points and tied her season high with seven assists.
Boston (5-2) hung close throughout the first half, tying the game at 12-12 at the 10:55 mark of the first half. A pair of free throws by Jordan Davis six seconds later put Baylor (7-0) up for good. The Lady Bears steadily built their lead from there and led 40-32 at the half.
Baylor opened the second period with a charge, running off nine unanswered points over the first 4:28 of the second period to push the lead to 17 points. The Lady Bears would lead by as much as 28 late in the game before settling for the final 81-56 margin.
With the win, Baylor has now won 20 straight regular season non-conference games, including 11 straight in the Ferrell Center. The Lady Bears now hit the road Saturday and Sunday, heading to Honolulu for the Hawai'i Invitational.
