Track Has Strong Showing at Oklahoma All Comers

NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor's track and field team started the 2001-02 season with a strong showing at the Oklahoma All-Comers Meet here Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Devenport came away with two individual titles winning both the 800 meter race and the mile run with times of 1:56.08 and 4:15.37, respectively.

2001 All-American in the pole vault, Jim Autenreith posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event in his first outing of the season clearing a height of 17'0.75".

Keeping with traditional Baylor was well represented in the 400 meters, grabbing two of the top three spots, as freshman Darold Williamson finished second in the race clocking a time of 48.69 and sophomore Joel Martin placed third with his time of 48.83.

The men also grabbed a first place finish in the 4x440 yard relay posting a time of 3:14.79, besting second place Oklahoma by nearly six seconds. The Baylor women matched the men's accomplishment also claiming top honors in the 4x440 yards clocking a time of 3:51.07.

For the women senior Lanie Millar had a successful day claiming the individual title in the 800 meters (2:14.71), and placing second in the mile run (5:02.02). Seniors Barabara Petrahn and Alisha Hooker also came away with first place finishes for the Bears as Petrahn won the 600 yard race with a time of 1:22.72, and Hooker took top honors in the 60 meter high hurdles (8.84).

Other Lady Bears to come away with top-three finishes included freshman Lakadron Ivery who placed second in the 60 meters (7.65) and third in the 200 (25.17). Ivery was just .05 seconds behind teammate Elizabeth Wilson who placed second in the event. Senior Chava Demart ran to a second place finish in the 400 posting a time of 57.05.

Baylor will now have more then a month and a half off before resuming the indoor season Jan. 18-19 at the Southwest Indoor Classic in Houston, Texas.
