Lady Bears Take Nevada Bell Classic Title

RENO, Nev. - The Baylor women's basketball team went to Reno and brought home the championship title from the Nevada Bell Classic, beating host Nevada in the title game Saturday night, 86-58.

The Lady Bears (2-0) built their lead early over the Wolfpack (1-1), leading 45-25 at halftime, and never let up. Baylor's 28-point margin of victory was the team's highest since a 70-42 win over UMKC last December.

Senior Danielle Crockrom led Baylor with 23 points and 16 rebounds, while senior Sheila Lambert added 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Crockrom and Lambert each earned spots on the all-tournament team, with Lambert taking home the Nevada Bell Classic MVP award.

Junior forward Kate Smith led Nevada in scoring with 19 points.

Baylor returns to Waco for its home opener Tuesday against UT-Arlington. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. As part of the pre-game festivities, the Lady Bears will unveil their 2001 NCAA Tournament banner, the first in program history.
