Track and Field Head Coach Clyde Hart Honored

WACO, Texas - Baylor track and field head coach Clyde Hart has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the sport of track and field by three separate organizations this past week. Hart received the first ever Master Coach Award from the North American, Central American and Caribbean Track and Field Coaches Association, and he will be presented with the W.R. White Award by the Alumni Association during this weekend's homecoming festivities. USA Track and Field Coaches Association also announced that Hart will be inducted into its Hall of Fame December 1st in Mobile, Alabama.

It his 39th year at the helm of the Baylor track and field program Hart has established one of the nation's top track and field programs. Hart's men's teams have consistently finished in the NCAA's top-10, while the women's squad has begun to regularly produce NCAA All-Americans, as well as national and conference champions.

In his time at Baylor, Hart has coached 23 NCAA champions and eight national collegiate record holders. For his accomplishments Hart has been recognized as the NCAA Indoor Coach of the Year twice and the Southwest Conference Indoor Coach of the Year four times.

Beyond the collegiate ranks Hart was named the United States Olympic Committee's Track Coach of the Year in 1996, and served as an assistant coach for USA Track and Field at the 2000 Olympic Games.

Hart's track and field team will begin the 2001-02 season Dec. 1 at the Oklahoma-hosted Norman Fall Meet.
