LOS ANGELES - Senior forward Molly Cameron scored a goal for the fifth straight game, but it was not enough as ninth-ranked USC beat Baylor in the Bears' first game of the 2000 USC Fila Challenge.
The Trojans (4-0) scored first against Baylor (2-2-1), as Trojan sophomore Stephanie Scholl knocked in a goal in the 25th minute to put USC up 1-0 , a lead the Trojans took into halftime.
USC freshman Jessica Edwards recorded her first of two goals on the night at 50:21 as she beat Baylor goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse to a ball outside the box and scored on the empty net.
Cameron provided Baylor's lone goal with a score in the 75th minute that briefly cut the Trojans' lead to 2-1. The score came on a pass from senior Jennifer Eden, giving Eden her first assist of the season.
USC quickly responded with a third score to provide the final margin of 3-1. In the 76th minute, Edwards again beat Greathouse to a ball in the box and scored on the empty net.
Cameron tied the Baylor record by scoring in her fifth straight game, Courtney Saunders set the record in September 1999. Cameron has scored once in each of the Bears' five games this season and has accounted for all of Baylor's scoring to date this year.
Baylor will play its second and final game at the USC Fila Challenge Sunday, when the Bears face eighth-ranked UCLA at 2 p.m. CT. Both of Baylor's wins this year have come on Sundays.
