Baylor (3-3-1) vs. #3 Nebraska (8-0)

Baylor will take a bit more confidence into the weekend after beating surging Colorado College 3-1 Sunday, but it will take more than confidence to beat No. 3 Nebraska.
The Bears open conference play against the Huskers on Friday. Nebraska will begin their defense of their 1999 Big 12 Championship, as they return 15 of 19 letterwinners, including seven starters. The Huskers finished 22-1-2 last season, good for fifth in the nation after losing to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament on sudden-death penalty kicks.
Baylor vs. Nebraska, the series history
Baylor is 1-5 all-time against Nebraska. In the team's last meeting, Nebraska beat Baylor 7-1 in the second round of last year's Big 12 Tournament. Alyson Miles scored the Bears' only goal.
Baylor (3-3-1) vs. Iowa State (4-2-1)

Iowa State follows Nebraska into Texas this weekend, the Cyclones face SMU in Dallas Friday before continuing down I-35 to Waco for Sunday's match.
Last season, Iowa State finished tied for seventh in the Big 12 with a 4-6 conference record (12-8 overall). The preseason Big 12 Coaches' Poll placed the Cyclones eighth. Iowa State enters the weekend 4-2-1. Freshman forward Nicole Wilcox leads the team in scoring with four goals and 11 points. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Chapman has a goals-against average of 0.63, among the best in the Big 12.
Baylor vs. Iowa State, the series history
Baylor is 5-0 all-time against Iowa State. Last season, the Bears defeated the Cyclones 2-1 in double overtime in Baylor's season opener. Courtney Saunders' goal in the 115th minute won the game for Baylor.
Last Time Out
Baylor battled through injury and illnesses to beat Colorado College on Sunday in Waco, 3-1. Molly Cameron scored twice, and Gina Castellano provided the first Baylor goal of the season fromsomeone other than Cameron. The Bears outshot the Tigers 28-8 (17-1 in the first half) as Baylor controlled the ball for most of the game.
Head Coach Nick Cowell
In 2000, head soccer coach Nick Cowell enters his second year leading the Baylor program after an eight-year stint as head coach at Trinity University in San Antonio. During that time, Cowell led his team to seven straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference titles, including 49-straight conference game victories and six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
At Trinity, Cowell's success resulted in him being named the SCAC Coach of the Year following the 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons. In 1992, he garnered Regional Coach of the Year honors. Prior to his work at Trinity, Cowell was at The College of Wooster where he had a 22-11-4 record in two seasons. He led the Lady Scots to the North Coast Athletic Conference title in 1990. Following that season he was named the NCAC and Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Coach of the Year.
Last season, in his first year with the Bears, he piloted Baylor to a 14-7-1 record overall. The Bears finished fourth in the Big 12 with a 6-3-1 record and made their second straight NCAA appearance, losing in the first round to SMU.
Cameron Rewriting the Record Books
Senior Molly Cameron continues to move up the charts in virtually every Baylor soccer all-time record. She ranks second on the Baylor career lists in points and goals, and third in assists.
More Molly
Cameron has not only been Baylor's leading scorer this season, she was Baylor's only scorer through the first six games of the year. Cameron scored once in each of the first five games for a total of five goals, while no other Bear scored until game seven against Colorado College when Gina Castellano came through.
To date, Cameron has scored seven of Baylor's eight goals. Those seven goals tie her for second in the Big 12. Her two game-winning goals thus far this season tie her for first in the conference. She ranks sixth in the Big 12 in points with 14.
Dawn Defense
Thus far this season, goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse has compiled a goals against average of 1.50, including two shutouts.
Through the first three weeks of the season, Greathouse leads all Big 12 goalkeepers in saves per game (6.86). She is second in the conference in total saves (48) and tied for fourth in shutouts with two.
Freshman Frenzy
The Baylor soccer team has 15 true freshmen on the roster, and a large number of those are seeing significant playing time. Midfielder Candace Reilly is third on the team in shots, and she and defender Melissa Humke have both started every game this season. Midfielder Erin Freeman has four shots in her seven games, including three starts. Cookie Day has started twice, while Stephanie Dempsey and Emily Fukuchi each has started once for Baylor. Freeman, Day and Fukuchi have each played in every game this season for Baylor.
M.C. -- Molly Cameron, Model of Consistency
Cameron scored in each of Baylor's first five games, tying the school consecutive-game scoring record. Her streak also set a record for most consecutive games to score in to start the season, breaking Courtney Saunders' previous record of three, set in 1996.
Baylor Places Two on Preseason All-Big 12 Team
The Big 12 Conference head coaches named senior goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse and sophomore defender Tamura Crawley to the 2000 Preseason All-Big 12 Soccer team. Last season, Greathouse was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. As a sophomore, she earned all-Big 12 first team and all-America honors. Crawley was one of five honorees from the 1999 All-Big 12 First Team.
The league's coaches also released their preseason conference poll. Baylor was picked to finish fifth in the Big 12. Nebraska was picked to repeat as conference champions.
2000 Recruiting Class Ranked Among Best in the Nation
The Baylor soccer team's 2000 recruiting class ranks 26th in the nation and fifth in the central region, according to Soccer Buzz.
Head coach Nick Cowell has brought in 17 new players, including 16 freshmen. Among the recruits are freshman defender Cookie Day, last year's Dallas-Fort Worth high school player of the year, and freshman midfielder Erin Freeman, the San Antonio high school player of the year. Freshman midfielder Candace Reilly was named to the 1999-2000 Parade All-America team, while sophomore transfer Barbara Torres led Georgetown University in scoring as a freshman. Baylor ranked fourth in the Big 12, behind Texas (fifth in the nation), Texas A&M (15th) and Nebraska (16th).
