WACO, Texas - The No. 14 ranked Baylor Bears had their five game win streak snapped today by Loyola Marymount, who handed the Bears a 0-1 loss. It is Baylor's first loss since a 0-3 decision against Nebraska on Aug. 29 in Lincoln, Neb.
In the 31st minute, Loyola's Erin Fahey broke away from the Bear's defensive pack and took the ball in for a score.
Second half action saw the Bears taking the offensive lead with 10 shots to the Lions two, but none favored the green and gold.
Baylor keeper Dawn Greathouse recorded three saves on the day and took two shots on goal. Tracy Sharp of Loyola tallied nine saves, seven of which occurred in the closing period.
"We just didn't work hard today. We've been coming out sluggish and then trying to make up for that in the second half. Give credit to Loyola, they played hard the entire game and that is something we have to start doing," head coach Nick Cowell said.
Baylor falls to 6-2 on the season while the Lions move to 6-1.The Bears return to action next Sunday as they host Evansville. Game time is 1 p.m. at the Baylor soccer field.
