WACO, Texas - In the 69th minute of play, senior forward Courtney Saunders took a pass from senior midfielder Nikki Hales to give Baylor their third defeat of the Texas A&M Aggies in four years. The 1-0 win moved Baylor to 9-4 on the season and 3-2 in Big XII play. Texas A&M fell to 10-3 on the season and 4-2 in league action.
A scoreless first half saw the Bears take eight shots to Texas A&M's three.Baylor keeper Dawn Greathouse accumulated two saves while the Aggies Melanie Wilson had five. It was not until after the break that Saunders scored her ninth goal on the season by taking a pass from Hales and shooting straight on from 15 yards out.
"This was a good win for us. I think it gave the team a lot of confidence and it reaffirmed to them what they are capable of doing," head coach Nick Cowell said.
Baylor took eight shots on goal while the Aggies ended up with 11. Greathouse got her ninth win of the season with 11 saves, while Wilson had seven.
The Bears will continue conference play Sunday as they host the University of Texas at 1 p.m. at the Baylor soccer field. The Longhorns were upset by Texas Tech 3-0 in Lubbock. They will come to Waco with a 5-6 overall mark and a 2-4 conference record.
