WACO, Texas - It was a rough and tumble afternoon for the No. 14 Baylor Bears as they suffered a 1-3 loss to No. 20 Missouri. Baylor falls to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Big XII play. With the win, the Tigers move to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Missouri began the action with a goal from Nikki Thole in the third minute of play. Amy Timmerman and Heather Buchheit were credited with the assist. The Bears answered in the 22nd minute when Juli Goin hit a shot from 15 yards out on the right side. Courtney Saunders and Nikki Hales were given the assists.
Missouri put in two more goals before the half. Erin Grimsley scored off a feed from Timmerman in the 30th minute and Thole got her second goal of the game when Tamisha Ellis assisted her in the 37th minute.
Neither team scored in the second period, but that doesn't mean the game action was dull. Baylor goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse, midfielder Nikki Hales and Missori's Timmerman were all given yellow cards in the 76th minute.
Just seconds later, Missouri head coach Bryan Blitz received a yellow card followed by a red card. Another red card was issued to Baylor defender Jenni Eden in the 78th minute. But, the Bears could not find a way to even the score, and Missouri walked left Waco with the win.
Baylor took 15 shots on goal, while Missouri had eight. Greatouse collected three saves, while Jackie Adamec of Missouri had 14.
Baylor's next match will be Friday at 7 p.m. as they host the ninth ranked Texas A&M Aggies.
