WACO, Texas - The No. 14 ranked Baylor Bears scored late and picked up their second Big XII win of the season as they outlasted Kansas 2-1.
Baylor moves to 8-3 on the season and 2-1 in Big XII play. The Jayhawks fall to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Baylor attacked early with Gina Castellano taking a shot on goal within thirty seconds of the game, but it was Kansas who put in the first goal. Colleen Colvin hit a shot from Melanie Schroder in the 27th minute
The Bears retaliated in the 40th minute when sophomore midfielder Juli Goin scored on a feed from junior defender Gina Castellano.
The score remained tied until the closing seconds when sophomore forward Megan Townes nailed a rebound shot off senior forward Courtney Saunders and sealed the Baylor victory with 16 seconds remaining.
The Bears took 12 shots on goal to Kansas' three. Junior goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse collected her fifth win of the season while racking up two saves. Betsy Pollard had 10 saves for the Jayhawks.
Baylor returns to league action Sunday as they host No. 20 Missouri. Game time is 1 p.m. at the Baylor soccer field.
