HOUSTON, Texas - Baylor University's men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2000 season here Friday at the Rice Relays. Both races will begin at 7 p.m. at the Buffalo Bayou.
The Rice Relays will feature an eight-team field that includes Houston, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State, Texas A&M and Texas Southern along with Baylor and the host Owls. On the men's side, each runner will run two separate, two-mile legs to constitute an eight-mile race. On the women's side, each runner will run two separate, one-and-a-half-mile legs to total six miles.
Baylor returns five letterwinners on both the men's team and the women's team. Last season, the men's team finished 11th in the Big 12 and 12th in the region. The women's team placed seventh at the Big 12 Championships and third at the regionals.
