WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team was named to the national All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 1999-2000 season.
The Bears earned the honor by earning a team grade point average greater than 3.2. In head coach Matt Knoll's four years at Baylor, the men have won the award three times.
Mark Williams also was recognized for his classroom achievements as he was named to the ITA All-America team. Williams, a senior from Perth, Australia, was already named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-America spring at-large second team.
The men's tennis team finished last season ranked seventh in the country in the final ITA polls, thanks to a 23-6 overall record. The Bears won the first Big 12 Conference championship in a men's sport in school history with a perfect 8-0 mark and made its third straight NCAA appearance. Led by all-Americans Johann Jooste, David Hodge and Mark Williams, Baylor hosted and won the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, but the Bears were upset by TCU in the round of 16 as their season came to an end.
