AUSTIN, Texas - The Baylor men's 4x400 meter relay team took their 12th Texas Relays title in 17 years as Peter Hauser, Zsolt Szeglet, Floyd Thompson and Brandon Couts clocked a season best 3:04.11.
"It was a good race. We knew we would have to run well and that is what we did. Floyd got us back in the race, but he knows that is his job every time," head coach Clyde Hart said.
The Bears nearest competitor was the indoor National Champion team from TCU, which clocked a 3:05.42. Texas A&M finished third with a 3:06.78.
The women's 4x400 meter relay finished third with a season best time of 3:35.48. Keisa Brown, Chava Demart, Udi Esiere and Barbara Petrahn put together the provisional qualifying time, which placed behind LSU (3:34.09) and the University of Texas (3:31.41).
"The women did a great job today. They came out and ran a season best and I am proud of their effort," Hart said.
National Champion Bayano Kamani ran the 10th best time in the world on his way to the Texas Relays title in the 400 meter hurdles. Kamani posted a season best 49.44, which is the third best mark in school history. Kamani already holds the school mark of 48.68.
"The 400 meter hurdles is a tough race on a good day, but it is a really tough race on a windy day. Bayano did a remarkable job," Hart said.
The Baylor men finished second in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:23.83, while the 4x1500 meter relay team clocked a 16:01.97 for ninth place.
