WACO, Texas - The women's tennis team is 14-1 overall and 7-1 in conference after defeating Oklahoma, 7-2, at the Streich Tennis Center today.
The Bears lead early with wins at No. one, three and five singles. At No. one singles, No. 22-ranked Jahnavi Parekh defeated Viviana Mracnova, 6-4, 6-2. At No. three singles, the No. 99-ranked Vida Mulec took the singles point from Kristin Guilford with a , 6-2, 6-2, match. Frida Borjesson took Jennie Hamilton in strait sets at No. five singles , 6-0, 6-0.
On court six, Claudia Aguilar pulled in a three set win against M. Mendieta. Aguilar won the first set, 6-0, and fought back after loosing the second set, 6-2, to take the third, 6-3. Karin Andersson was defeated by A. Bryntesson at No. four singles, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3. In the longest match of the day, No. 45-ranked Katja Kovac defeated Angela Stroup at No. two singles. Kovac won the first set, 6-4, but lost the second set in the tie-breaker, 7-6 (8). She took the third set 7-5.
The Bears entered doubles play with the match count at 5-1, already clenching the dual victory from Oklahoma.
Baylor lost at No. one doubles, with Andersson and Borjesson falling to Mracnova and Stroup, 8-5. At No. two doubles, Parekh and Monica Gonzalez defeated Guilford and Bryntesson, 8-6. Paola Stephen and Vida Mulec took the No. three doubles match from Helleland and Mendieta.
The bears take the court on Sunday against Oklahoma State. The match starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Center.
