Baylor Soccer's Hornbacher Drafted for WUSA

WACO, Texas - Baylor assistant soccer coach Rebecca Hornbacher was selected on Monday by the New York Power in the first-ever draft of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA).

Hornbacher, an all-America selection during her time at Nebraska, was taken in the 14th round (109th overall pick) by the New York Power. Hornbacher came to Baylor in 1998 as a graduate assistant goalkeeper coach. In the spring of 1999, she was promoted to full-time assistant coach under new head coach Nick Cowell. Hornbacher completed her studies and earned her master's degree in sports management from Baylor in May.

The December draft was for college graduates only, a separate college draft will take place in the spring, with draftees receiving invitation to preseason workouts. All-Big 12 selections Dawn Greathouse and Molly Cameron are likely draftees from the 2000 Baylor team. Former Baylor all-American Courtney Saunders is also expected to be invited to training camp.

The WUSA will launch in April with eight teams: the Atlanta Beat, Bay Area CyberRays, Carolina Tempest, Boston Breakers, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spiritand Washington (D.C) Freedom. The WUSA will feature practically all of the members of the 1999 World Cup Champion and 2000 silver medal winning-team.
