Baylor Tennis Teams Announce 2001 Schedules

WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's and women's tennis teams announced their 2001 spring schedules on Monday.
The Baylor men will begin their defense of the 2000 Big 12 Conference title with their first dual match on Jan. 23 at SMU. The men's home opener comes Jan. 31 against Lamar, and conference play begins Feb. 23 at Nebraska.
The men's schedule includes 12 teams which qualified for the 2000 NCAA Tournament and 10 teams which finished the spring in the top 25. The Big 12 Conference concluded the season with seven ranked men's tennis teams, led by Baylor (No. 7), Texas A&M (No. 8) and Texas (No. 16).
The Baylor women start dual matches Jan. 27, as they host Louisiana-Monroe at 9:30 a.m. at the Streich Tennis Courts. The women begin conference play Feb. 19 at home against Iowa State.
Included on the women's schedule are 11 teams from last spring's final rankings and five NCAA Tournament teams. The Bears finished last season ranked No. 19 and were one of three Big 12 women's tennis teams to make the tournament, along with No. 8 Texas and No. 38 Texas A&M.
