Bo Els is in his first year as a Quality Control Coach in 2026 working with the Baylor safeties. He was announced on Jan. 9, 2026.
Els joins the Bears after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach working with the safeties at Missouri.
In his two years at Missouri, the Tigers won 18 games and made two bowl appearances. Defensively, Els helped Missouri finish 17th and 8th nationally in total defense in 2024 and 2025, respectively. They also ranked 11th in pass defense both seasons and 5th in third down defense in 2024.
Els joined the Missouri staff after spending four seasons at Michigan State. There, he served as a graduate assistant coach with the defensive backs from 2021-23 after volunteering with MSU's quarterbacks in 2020. During his time at Michigan State, Els played an important role in MSU’s Peach Bowl victory in 2021. He also coached NFL Defensive Backs Ameer Speed and Kendell Brooks and All Big Ten Safety, Xavier Henderson.
Before Michigan State, Els had a decorated playing career as a wide receiver and return specialist at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Els helped lead the Mustangs to two undefeated NAIA National Championships in his final two seasons. In his senior campaign, Els was elected as a team captain and led the NAIA in receptions and punt return yards.
After his senior season, Els was a student coach in the spring of 2020. He worked with receivers and led off-season workouts before graduating from Morningside with a 3.97 GPA and a degree in Business Finance.
Els is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and is married to his wife, Mo.
