Alexis Barnes serves Baylor Athletics as the Associate Director of Learning Support within the Student-Athlete Center for Excellence.
Barnes joined BU in May of 2023 as a Learning Specialist and was promoted to her current position in June 2025.
Barnes came to BU from Georgia Tech where she served as an Academic Advisor for football since June 2022. There, she tracked student-athletes' progress toward degrees, eligibility and graduation.
Prior to GT, Barnes was an Assistant Learning Specialist and Co-Tutor Coordinator for football, men's basketball and Olympic sports at the University of Kansas from June 2021 to May 2022. She provided intensive academic support through strategic instruction to high-risk student-athletes, scheduled initial tutoring sessions and adjusted tutoring sessions throughout the semester for all swimming & diving, rowing and women's volleyball student-athletes.
She also served the Jayhawks as a content and strategic tutor from January 2020 through May of 2021 before moving roles.
The Nebraska native earned her Bachelor's from Kansas in Journalism and Strategic Communications in May 2020. She then earned her Master's in Education with an emphasis in Sport Management in May of 2022. She will earn a second Master's in Education as a Reading Specialist Licensure in May 2024.
