The Baylor Spirit program is dedicated to fostering excellence, leadership and service while honoring the rich traditions that have defined Baylor University for more than a century. Through every performance, appearance and interaction, Baylor Spirit strives to represent the values and pride of the green & gold.
Baylor Spirit began in 1920 as the Yell Leader Team and evolved into the Co-ed Yell Leaders in 1968. As Baylor continued to grow, so did its Spirit program. The Songleaders dance team was established in 1975, followed by the addition of Bruiser the mascot in 1981. In 2004, Baylor Spirit expanded with the creation of the All-Girl Yell Leaders, and in 2017, Marigold the mascot joined the Baylor Spirit family. Each generation of Baylor Spirit members has played a vital role in building the tradition, passion and excellence that define the program today.
Today, Baylor Spirit proudly represents Baylor University and Baylor Athletics both on the sidelines and throughout the community. When supporting the Bears' 19 athletic programs, Baylor Spirit Squad members create memorable game-day experiences while helping unite Baylor fans around the world. Beyond athletics, Baylor Spirit is committed to serving the Waco community and leading through faith, integrity and purpose.
As ambassadors for Baylor University, Baylor Spirit members have the unique opportunity to generate excitement, enthusiasm and pride for the institution while creating lifelong memories for student-athletes and fans alike. What began as an on-campus tradition in 1920 has grown into a worldwide community of Baylor faithful. While opportunities continue to evolve, Baylor Spirit remains committed to its core mission: growing in faith, pursuing excellence and serving others.
