Highlights of 'B' Association Annual Business Meeting

WACO, Texas - The Annual Meeting of the Baylor "B" Association was held on Sept. 22, in the "B" Room at Floyd Casey Stadium prior to the football game with New Mexico University. Highlights included:

  • A report from fellow letter-winner and Baylor Athletic Director Tom Stanton who discussed the 2012 Vision Plan recently approved by the university's board of regents.

  • Another fellow letter-winner, Golf Coach Tim Hobby, responded to the "B" Association gift to him for coaching the Golf Team to the 2001 Big XII Golf Championship.

  • President Pinkie Palmer announced the new "B" Association Wall of Honor and said the first honoree will be football letter-winner Mike Dewlen, who lost his life in Vietnam. Palmer also said that the "B" Association now has almost 100 new members following the organization's decision to include freshman letter winners and that 23 of them have paid lifetime dues.

  • Palmer announced the formation of a Communications Committee to lead the organization into the technological future with an improved Web Page and provide better communications with members. He said Houston Chronicle Associate Publisher and Editor Jack Loftis, also an association member, will be involved in creating news items and features for the site.

  • Two new committees were announced, including a Long-Range Planning Committee that will study and evaluate future association activities and the possibility for new facilities, and the Participation Committee that will consider increased inclusion within the association.

  • The Student Appreciation Dinner that is funded by the association and provides an introduction to letter winners prior to graduation continues to expand. Presently the organization has four student members: K.C. Raney (baseball), Paola Stephen (tennis), Zoltan Papp (tennis), and Melanie Hagewood (golf). Certificates are being awarded to letter winners as they graduate. Certificates for letter winners prior to 2000, board members certificates and certificates for lifetime dues payers will begin in 2002.

  • Executive Director, Bunk Bradley, announced that the "B" Association now has 926 dues-paying members, second only to Texas A&M in the Big XII and Treasurer Gary Luft made the financial report. Palmer thanked the association staff for helping maintain a stable financial condition.
