WACO, Texas - Scott Stricklin has been named assistant athletic director of media relations at Baylor University, Athletic Director Tom Stanton announced today.

Stricklin, 29, comes to Baylor from Tulane where he has served as assistant athletic director for media relations since 1998. In addition to overseeing the media relations office at Tulane, he served as media coordinator for the 1999 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship First/Second Rounds held in the Superdome.

"Anne and I are looking forward to becoming a part of the Baylor community," said Stricklin. "I'm a firm believer in the ideas and values Baylor promotes.

"The commitment Dr. Sloan and Tom Stanton have made to athletics - from the $27 million in capital improvements to the quality coaches they've hired - makes this an exciting time to be at Baylor."

Stricklin's tenure at Tulane came after five seasons as the associate media relations director at Auburn University. While at Auburn, he assisted in the administration of the overall media relations program with special emphasis on baseball, football, tennis and swimming.

He also served as the editor of Auburn Football Illustrated, the Tigers' football game program. Under his guidance, the program was judged "Best in the Nation" by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for three consecutive seasons. He has also earned numerous other publication awards.

Prior to his tenure at Auburn, Stricklin worked in the Mississippi State University sports information office from 1988-93, working primarily with the Bulldog baseball program. In his final year at MSU, Stricklin was promoted to a full-time assistant specializing in football publicity.

Stricklin is a 1992 graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in marketing. The Jackson, Miss., native is married to the former Anne Howell, the youngest daughter of Basketball Hall of Famer Bailey Howell.

"We are very pleased to have such an outstanding young leader in the athletic media relations field join the Baylor family," said Stanton. "Scott's qualifications and background are exemplary, he will be a great asset not only to our department but Baylor as well."

Stricklin will assume his duties at Baylor on Monday, October 4.
