Baylor assistant athletic director Tom Hill has been named director of
the university's Ferrell Special Events Center, effective Oct. 1, athletic
director Tom Stanton announced today. Hill succeeds Rob Seitz, who resigned
earlier this month to accept a facility management position in the
Midwest.
Hill joined the Baylor athletic department staff 11 years ago as a
graduate assistant in Clyde Hart's track and field program. He subsequently
served as compliance director, assistant track coach and, most recently,
assistant athletic director, a title that he will retain.
"Tom has exhibited through his many years of service a significant grasp
of detail," Stanton said. "He has outstanding leadership abilities and a
customer service attitude that will fit nicely into the future direction of
the Ferrell Center."
In addition to serving as home to Baylor's intercollegiate men's
basketball and women's basketball and volleyball programs, the 10,000-seat
facility hosts graduation ceremonies for the university and area schools,
concerts, lectures, touring shows, and other special events.
In his current position, Hill oversees many of the athletic department's
capital improvement projects, day-to-day operations, and travel logistics
for the football program. He is also commissioned for football and
basketball game-day management as well as the maintenance of athletic department
facilities. Hill served as meet director for the 1997 and 1999 Big XII
Conference outdoor track and field championships, which were held at Baylor's
Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex, and also coordinated the 1998
WNIT preseason and 1999 WNIT postseason basketball games at the Ferrell
Center.
In addition to his administrative duties, Hill coaches the middle
distance runners on Baylor's men's and women's track squads, which have produced
numerous conference champions and All-Americans through the years.
Hill has served as a commissioner for the Waco Parks and Recreation
Commission, a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Sports Hall of
Fame and was chair of this year's American Heart Association Heart Walk.
He and his wife, Kristen, have two children, Calvin and Cora Lynne.
