RIVALRY WEEK IS HERE
10/13/2026 10:02:00 AM | Athletic News, Desk of the AD
One of the many fun aspects of a team's season is how moments can organically develop in ways we could never script or plan. Saturday at McLane Stadium looks to be one of those moments.
We need all of you here. We need to experience this moment together. And we can spend the week looking forward to Saturday for three key reasons.
First, we have optimal kickoff conditions.
I admit, I spent way too much time this past Monday morning refreshing my inbox, waiting for the email from our conference with our Oct. 17 game time. And when it finally came through, I was almost afraid to open it.
6 p.m.
There was an almost immediate roar of excitement inside the Simpson Center, and I quickly realized I wasn't the only one in the office reading that email. In addition to an ideal time, the weather looks perfect. I'm so thankful how these elements have come together.
Secondly, it's rivalry week.
Unfortunately, this generation of college athletics has seen many schools across the country lose some long-standing rivalries in the carousel of conference alignment. We are certainly no exception to that, but it makes the ones we do have all the more significant.
Baylor-TCU is the most played college football series in the history of the state of Texas. Its intensity, its memories and the legends it produces are ingrained in our collective memory as a fan base. I can't wait to witness the next chapter written on Saturday.
Thirdly, this team has earned our support.
I'm enamored by the relationship that develops between a team and its fans. It is based on a mutual respect and understanding that neither side can be at its strongest without the other.
Fans have to show up, provide energy and ensure that home territory is as difficult a place as possible for the opponent to enter. At the same time, the team must represent its fans well, play with maximum effort, entertain and certainly win along the way.
Over the first five games of the season, this team has given us wins, amazing individual and collective performances and a trajectory of improvement. Let's show them our appreciation on Saturday.
All the pieces are in place. Great weather, a night game, a familiar rival, our Bears playing inspired football and most importantly, the opportunity for you to be there and share it with us.
Start Your Weekend with Soccer
Before we gather at McLane, Michelle Lenard and our soccer team deserve a big Baylor crowd of their own.
This group has earned national attention, climbing into the top 10 and is a ton of fun to watch. Aryanna Jimison's recent Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week recognition and Azul Alvarez's inclusion on the Hermann Trophy midseason watch list are two examples of the terrific student-athletes representing this program.
Come see them take on TCU on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field. Admission is free, wear black, and it's scarf night for the first 500 fans. Bring the family and get our rivalry weekend started at Betty Lou!
Fall Sports Rolling and Hoops Around the Corner
We talked as a department and with our head coaches about how winning is contagious and our need for a great start to the academic year. Beyond the success of Baylor Football and Baylor Soccer, I'm so proud of the performance thus far for Volleyball, Equestrian, Golf, Tennis and our Cross-Country teams. Each of those teams have done what we hoped for and have positioned us well for great seasons across the board.
Practice and scrimmages for both our Men's and Women's Basketball teams are in full swing. I've liked what I've seen from both teams so far and encourage you to grab your season tickets to be with us all season at Foster! We will take the progress we've made to enhance the gameday experience in Football across I-35, but we don't get the full atmosphere we so desperately crave without you.
Your Feedback Matters
We've enjoyed seeing families make memories in the Baylor Backyard, fans welcome our team at Bear Walk and our youngest Bears get their turn in the Cub Club Junior Line. Those moments matter to us because they help make a day at Baylor something people want to come back to.
We're also listening to what you think can be better. Keep sharing that feedback and know that our team is working through it.
We've increased signage to help fans find concessions and navigate our tailgate areas and added more music and energy with Baylor Spirit as the team arrives for Bear Walk. These are small tweaks that help make your gameday experience better.
Fan First Spotlight
A father and daughter recently came to McLane Stadium for their first Baylor football game together, with her toy Princess Jasmine along for the fun. They enjoyed the game, the pom-poms, the gear and the whole experience until Jasmine went missing. Despite their search, they left the stadium without her.
After crossing the pedestrian bridge, the little girl spotted Deputy Justin Trevino of the Coryell County Sheriff's Office near the Law School. She approached him and asked for help filing a missing person report for her toy. With thousands of fans coming and going, Deputy Trevino took the time to get down on her level, make eye contact, ask questions and listen.
"For the next five to 10 minutes, this officer made my little girl feel like she was the most important person in the world," her dad shared. "He didn't rush her. He didn't dismiss her concerns. He didn't treat the conversation like an interruption. He simply listened."
Before they left, Deputy Trevino reassured her and promised to let her dad know if he heard anything about Princess Jasmine. That is what putting people first looks like. Thank you, Deputy Trevino, for showing one of our youngest Baylor fans that her concerns mattered and her voice was heard. We have since learned that Princess Jasmine has been replaced (although the daughter believes Deputy Trevino found her!). Father and daughter plan on returning to McLane this weekend with Jasmine in tow.
Thanks for all your continued support and presence. This weekend is going to be fun and can't wait to see you there.
