Sophomores Kimeli, Sterrett lead the way for the Bears
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Unable to sustain a fast start that saw them two points out of the top 10 halfway through the 6K race, the Baylor women fell back to 14th in Friday's Big 12 Cross Country Championship at Rim Rock Farm.
Sophomore Ruth Kimeli got out with the front pack that was chasing record-setting BYU freshman Jane Hedengren, running a 5:04.5 first mile and was in 10th in the field of 140 runners. Hedengren ran a blistering time of 18:29.6, beating the previous record by more than 30 seconds and winning the race by almost 45 seconds. BYU also won the women's team title with 38 points, placing all seven of its runners in the top 20.
