BU signal caller one of 36 official candidates for nation’s most prestigious quarterback award
FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor football redshirt senior quarterback Sawyer Robertson has been named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2025, as announced Thursday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
Robertson is one of three dozen quarterbacks who are now officially in contention for the 2025 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The group includes 17 seniors, 11 juniors, five sophomores and three freshmen. Fourteen of the players, including Robertson, were featured on this year's Davey O'Brien Award Preseason Watch List.
Robertson is one of five quarterbacks in the class representing the Big 12 Conference, alongside BYU's Bear Bachmeier, Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby, Houston's Conner Weigman and TCU's Josh Hoover.
In 2025, Robertson has emerged as one of the nation's most productive passers, leading the country in passing yards (2,513) and ranking second nationally in passing touchdowns (23) and passing yards per game (314.1). Through eight games, Robertson has accounted for 156 total points, a mark which ranks second in the Big 12 and third nationally. His 314.8 total yards of offense per game also leads the conference and slots him seventh in all of FBS football.
Robertson has already picked up a bevy of national awards throughout his senior campaign, including Dave Campbell's Texas Football Midseason Offensive MVP honors. He has twice been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, including after a five-TD performance at Oklahoma State, and a thrilling 440-yard, four-TD effort in leading the Bears' come-from-behind victory at SMU. Robertson is also one of 16 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, recognizing his achievements both on and off the field.
For the fifth-straight year, fan voting on social media will earn players bonus selection committee votes during the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting rounds. First-round fan voting begins immediately following the QB Class announcement. To vote, fans can simply "like" the official graphic from the @daveyobrien social media accounts that highlights their favorite quarterback.
The list of semifinalists from this year's QB Class will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later on Tuesday, Nov. 25, and the winner of the 2025 Davey O'Brien Award will be unveiled live on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The 49th Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
