Bears led by Sczech with 12 kills
WACO, Texas – The 23rd-ranked Baylor volleyball team continued their momentum from Friday as they swept Campbell, 3-0, in the early afternoon on Sunday. With the 3-0 win, the Bears swept each of the three teams in the Baylor Classic.
The Bears (3-0) defeated the Camels (0-3) in three sets at the Ferrell Center. Winning the first set 25-18, BU continued to dominate and took the second set 25-9. Baylor secured the third set 25-9, holding Campbell to a -.055 hitting percentage overall.
Allie Sczech led the Bears with 12 kills and Kendal Murphy served up two aces along with Elise McGhee and Tehani Ulufatu.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
Campbell earned the first two points of the set, but the Bears came out strong with back-to-back aces from Elise McGhee. Baylor went on a 3-0 scoring run thanks to two kills from Jackie Barrett Frazier and another from Alicia Andrews, causing Campbell to call timeout at 12-8. The Bears then went on a 5-0 scoring run highlighted by kills from Allie Sczech and Kendal Murphy. Following that run, a kill from McGhee and a block by Andrew led the Bears to a score of 25-18 to end the first set, holding Campbell to a .067 hitting percentage.
Set 2
As the Bears headed into the second set, Sczech got it started. A block party ensued after the teams traded points, with Victoria Davis and Grace Carroll combining at the net to make it 8-6, Bears. The team dominated on a 9-0 run highlighted by a kill from McGhee and back-to-back aces by Murphy, a career high, going up 15-6. The Bears continued to dominate with an 8-0 run which included another set of back-to-back aces, this time from Tehani Ulufatu. Bringing the set to a close at 25-9, Sczech and Bibinbe getting a block, Bibinbe with a kill, and then a solo block from Bibinbe to finish it.
Set 3
The Bears' rampage continued as Murphy and Sczech opened the set with back-to-back kills. Nothing doing for the Camels, McGhee, Sczech and Bibinbe scattered the court with kills, going up 10-4, causing Campbell to call time. Starting with a Murphy kill at 12-5, Sczech led the Bears on a 7-0 scoring run where she had four kills in a row. Jennifer Bolden got her first career Baylor kill at 19-6 before a solo block from Bibinbe. Campbell never found its rhythm, Carroll recorded two kills, and Ava Grace Haggard had a solo block to help Baylor take the set, 25-9, securing its third sweep of the weekend.
