Bears led by Murphy against Wildcats
WACO, Texas – The 23rd-ranked Baylor volleyball team beat Abilene Christian on Friday morning in the Ferrell Center, 3-0.
BU swept ACU in three sets at the Ferrell. Baylor dominated the first set with a score of 25-11 and was able to keep their momentum the rest of the morning, winning the second set 25-17 and took the third set 25-14. Baylor held ACU to a .065 hitting percentage.
The Bears were led by Kendal Murphy with 11 kills and Jackie Barrett Frazier, Lauren Briseño and Murphy each secured 6 digs.
Baylor starts the season 1-0 for the fourth time under head coach Ryan McGuyre.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
The Bears started off strong to begin the match. In her first start as a Baylor Bear, Jackie Barrett Frazier made a splash with an ace at 2-1. Continuing the streak, Preseason All-Big 12 Elise McGhee gave BU an ace at 7-2 which helped propel Baylor to a 9-1 run. Kendal Murphy was relentless as she had seven kills in the first set, including match point, leading the Bears to win the set, 25-11. The Bears had a side out percentage of 83% in that first frame with a .500 hitting percentage.
Set 2
The Bears continued their momentum into the second set with a block by Allie Sczech and Alicia Andrew to start. The Bears continued dominating, never possessing a lead of less than three. Andrew finished the set with an ace and a kill. Victoria Davis earned her first starting spot in set 1 and continued to prove herself as she made her second kill of the set at 22-17. Three kills in a row by McGhee led the Bears to win the set at 25-17 with a 64% side out percentage.
Set 3
Baylor didn't let up as Manuela Bibinbe made a kill taking the Bears into a 3-0 lead. A strong block by Davis and Sczech propelled the Bears to lead 9-3. Sczech continued to dominate as her kill put Baylor ahead 10-4. Unstoppable Murphy made her 10th kill of the match and Davis notched a kill to move the set to 19-10. Grace Carroll made her first career kill which led the Bears into the match point at 24-13. The Baylor Bears took a clean sweep victory over the Wildcats, an ACU service error ending the match.

The Bears will be back at the Ferrell Center on Friday night, playing Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. Prior to that, Campbell faces Tulsa at 1 p.m. and ACU faces the Camels at approximately 5 p.m.
