Bears roll over Terriers to advance
WACO, Texas – The number four regional seeded and 16th ranked Baylor volleyball team took down Wofford, 3-0, in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (23-7) defeated the Terriers (23-9) in a dominant fashion. BU took the first and second sets at 25-11 and completed the sweep with a third set win at 25-18.
BU improved to 10-1 in NCAA Tournament matches on their home court, and 17-12 overall in the tournament itself.
Elise McGhee broke her own Baylor record for most aces in a tournament match with six to lead the team. Allie Sczech garnered 12 kills with no errors, hitting for .600. Alicia Andrew had a total of four blocks, while Jackie Barrett Frazier led with 28 assists and 16 digs.
THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
The Bears started on the right foot with two service errors from Wofford, following it with an attack error from the Terriers at 3-1 and a kill from McGhee to make it 4-1. Baylor was able to capitalize on Wofford's three attack errors in a row to put BU ahead 7-2. With a kill from redshirt junior Alicia Andrew and an ace from McGhee, the Bears pushed to 9-2. The Terriers were able to garner three kills and lessened the gap to 11-5. Wofford went on to score two more kills before Baylor ended their run with a kill from sophomore Victoria Davis, followed by a service ace from Lauren Briseño to extend the lead, 14-7. Both teams went back and forth on kills before Sczech's first kill of the day to make it 17-10. The green and gold went on a five-point run, 21-10. With two more kills to make it set point, sophomore Tehani Ulufatu delivered an ace to close out the set, 25-11.
Set 2
The Bears started with kills from McGhee and sophomore Kendal Murphy before Wofford went on a five-point run that was ended with an attack error at 3-5. BU was able to close the gap with two kills and an ace before Wofford responded with a kill to tie it, 6-6. With two aces from McGhee, BU went on a five-point run of their own before a service error at 10-7. With her seventh kill of the match, Sczech contributed another point with a block assist alongside Davis to make the Bears up six, 13-7. Wofford responded with a kill, but the green and gold answered with two kills of their own from Davis and McGhee before another Terrier kill at 15-9. After two attack errors from both sides, the Bears countered with two kills from Davis and Andrew, followed by another Wofford attack error and kill from McGhee, the score at 20-11. Baylor went on a four-point run including a block from Sczech and Andrew to make it set point. The Bears ended the set with a victory after a kill from Sczech to close out the set 25-11.

BU started with an attack error from Wofford followed by a solo block from Andrew. Andrew and McGhee then delivered a kill each before the Terriers ended BU's four-point run with their own kill at 4-1. Wofford then went on to have a four-point run before a kill from Andrew to make it 5-4. Each team then delivered one kill respectively before McGhee garnered two aces in a row, the 11th time a Baylor player has done so this season. After a successful challenge to give Sczech another kill, McGhee garnered her sixth ace of the night, breaking her own Baylor record for most aces in a tournament match, to make it 10-5. The Terriers earned a kill and a block before Sczech replied with two kills. After a Wofford kill, McGhee and senior Ava Grace Haggard put two more kills on the board before Wofford was able to gain two points from a kill and an attack error at 15-10. Murphy then delivered a kill followed by attack errors from both squads with another Murphy kill and then attack errors from both teams at 19-12. Following two kills from both sides, the Terriers capitalized off a service error with a kill and an ace to lessen BU's lead to 20-16. After each squad gained a kill, Baylor earned three points to make it set point. Wofford delivered one more kill before freshman Grace Carroll closed out the set and match, 25-18, to get the sweep for the Bears.
