The Bears won the third set, 25-16.
THE RUNDOWN
MADISON, Wis. – No. 10 Baylor volleyball fell on Saturday night to No. 2 Wisconsin after going down 3-1 in four sets in UW Field House.
The Bears are now 1-1 on the season after the Big Ten-Big 12 Challenge, where they finished second.
The starters on the night were Shanel Bramschreiber, Lauren Briseño, Kara McGhee, Yossiana Pressley, Hannah Sedwick, Avery Skinner, and Callie Williams.
SET ONE
Wisconsin took set one from Baylor, 25-16. Despite the early energy from the Green & Gold, the Bears were beaten on the block by the Badgers. Hard hits and blips over the net from the Badgers proved costly. Yossiana Pressley still recorded five kills in the set, with the Bears recording two assisted blocks.
SET TWO
BU saw Wisconsin go up 4-0 before recording their first point on a Pressley kill. Attacks from the Bears fell out of bounds or fell badly. A kill from Lauren Harrison helped push momentum forward, but at 21-7, it was too late. The Badgers had gone on scoring runs of six, four, and three points and took the set at 25-7.
SET THREE
Hannah Sedwick dumped a ball over the net to make it 9-8 Baylor, and then the Bears started rolling. Kara McGhee and Pressley recorded a block, and Lauren Harrison delivered a kill. They went on two 4-0 runs to put them up early. Balls started falling in the Bears' favor, and play was cleaner from the girls in gold. A challenge by the Badgers at 17-13 was denied, and BU went on to score four-straight once again. Baylor ended the set with a 3-0 scoring run and a 25-16 win.
SET FOUR
The Badgers started off hot, going on a 7-0 scoring run toward the beginning of the fourth set. Pressley put a stop to it with a swift kill, and cut the Badgers' lead. Andressa Parise had a kill to make it 15-8, and Avery Skinner would follow it up with one of her own at 17-9. However, the Badgers kept climbing. Kara McGhee, Lauren Harrison and Callie Williams would all record kills, but Wisconsin came out with the win at 25-15.
BEAR BITES
"Wisconsin is a strong team and we were definitely sloppy. We were able to at least respond and put together one good set, but we weren't consistent enough. There were plenty of good things that we were able to do, but as our consistency and training improves, I think we'll do even better. We were missing the mark and missing the rhythm at too many key times tonight to consistently put any pressure on them. We went error-free for one set, but that's why it's three out of five in this game."
