No. 11 VB Takes Series with Kansas

Bears defeated the Jayhawks, 3-1.
WACO, Texas –No. 11 Baylor volleyball took this season's series as well as overtook the all-time matchup with Kansas on Friday night, posting a 3-1 win over the Jayhawks.
The Bears (11-4, 5-1) fell in the first set 26-23, but took the next three at 25-17, 25-22, and 25-19 to defeat KU (11-8, 3-5).
BU has officially taken over in the all-time series with Kansas, now leading 28-27 over the Jayhawks.
Fifth-year outside hitter Yossiana Pressley continued to wow the crowd, leading the team with nearly 30 kills on the night, recording 28 overall on 48 attempts for a .458 hitting percentage. The Texas native had a double-double as well with 11 digs.
Hannah Sedwick went .500 on the night in her setting with 44 assists on 88 attempts. Lauren Harrison had 11 kills, Shanel Bramschreiber had 14 digs, and Baylor had its eighth match of the season with an attack percentage above .300. Marieke van der Mark was also a contributing factor in the match, leading the team with four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One
The Bears led in the first few points, but Kansas came out with some fire and went up 8-4. Baylor put some pressure on the wound and went on a six-point run to make it 10-8, with van der Mark and Harrison kills as well as a Bramschreiber ace. KU's Lacey Angello tied it up at 11-11 with an ace of her own, but the Bears went on another run to make it 15-12, where the Jayhawks called timeout. The two teams would trade a few, but Baylor would remain in the lead thanks to Pressley, Skinner and Harrison kills. At 23-19, it seemed the set might belong to BU, but the next few points led the contrary. Kansas closed the gap at 23-22 with a kill, and Baylor called for a pause in play. Out of the break, an error tied it up at 23-all, with an ace from KU pushing them ahead. BU tied it up again at 24-24, but then went down again on a Jayhawk block. An ace from Kansas sealed the first set at 26-24.
Set Two
Baylor came out ready to defend the Ferrell in the second frame, and went up 2-0 early thakns to a Pressley kill and block assist from Pressley and van der Mark. The fight was on and the two teams traded points all the way up to 9-9. Pressley helped the Bears pull away with a kill, then Harrison and van der Mark did their jobs to extend it. KU called timeout at 17-10 to try to stop the leakage, but Baylor wanted to keep pushing some buttons too. A few attack errors and blocks allowed the Jayhawks to make it 22-15. At 23-15, the call was originally in Kansas' favor, but Ryan McGuyre challenged successfully and changed it. Two Pressley kills finished out the set at 25-17.
Set Three
Back and forth was the start of the set. Kansas pulled ahead and went on a run, scoring four-straight with the scoreboard reading 8-4 in their favor. Baylor called timeout and came out of it with some momentum. At 9-9, points started to be traded again. BU's kills from Pressley and Harrison pushed the Bears on, going up 15-13. The scoreboard read 17-17, then 18-18, but BU had enough. Bri Coleman served up an ace at 21-19, then Pressley and Harrison made it 24-21. The set ended on a service error from Kansas to finish it at 25-22.
Set Four
Baylor had some renewed confidence going into the fourth, now up 2-1. At 10-7, the Bears took a lead and had back-to-back kills from Harrison. Sedwick recorded a kill at 12-10, and when KU scored the next point, BU decided a one-point margin was too close for comfort. Baylor took it to 15-12 from Pressley, then it became 17-14 on another Coleman ace. Kansas called timeout, and the Bears came out of the breather to go up 22-18, though KU gained some ground. Marieke van der Mark had a kill to make it 24-19, then served up an ice-cold ace to finish off the set and the match, 25-19.
