Bears drop the doubles point for the first time this season.
THE RUNDOWN
MADISON, Wis. – No. 12 and eighth-seeded Baylor men's tennis (8-3) closed out play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with a 4-2 setback to No. 12 seed and ninth-ranked Columbia (5-2) on Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
BU moves to 25-27 all-time in the national event and finishes 1-2 on the weekend.
Baylor fell behind early in doubles when sophomores Finn Bass and Adrian Boitan dropped a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot. 17th-ranked Constantin Frantzen and Sven Lah evened it up with a 6-2 upset over No. 5 Jackie Tang and Jack Lin at the top of the lineup, improving to 11-0 in spring play.
BU dropped the doubles point for the first time this season when 23rd-ranked Ryan Dickerson and Matias Soto fell 6-4 at the No. 2 spot, moving to 6-1 in spring play.
No. 25 Lah opened up singles play with a quick 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 109 Tang at the No. 2 spot for the 1-1 tie. It was Lah's fourth win over a ranked opponent this season.
Then, Adam Ambrozy took down freshman Alex Garcia, 6-3, 6-4, on court four to give the lead back to Columbia. The Lions pushed the score to 3-1 when Austen Huang upset No. 82 Frantzen on court six, 7-5, 7-5.
BU claimed its second point when Bass earned his first ranked win of his career after he took down No. 99 Alex Kotzen, 7-6(2), 6-4, at the No. 5 spot. Columbia ended up closing out the match when No. 20 Lin took a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 67 Soto at the No. 1 spot.
