VB Earns Nine Academic All-Big 12 Honors

Bears have eight first-team selections in 2018
IRVING, Texas – Baylor volleyball had nine players named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Team, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
On the first team, senior Ashley Fritcher (master's in communication sciences & disorders) earns her third-straight nod while Shelly Fanning (master's in sport management), Braya Hunt (health science studies) and Nicole Thomas (biology) earn their second.
Earning their first career academic honors on the first team are Hannah Fluegel (health science studies), Hannah Lockin (communications), Taylor Marburger (undecided) and Tara Wulf (health science studies).
Marieke van der Mark (health, kinesiology and leisure studies) was named to the second team. Lockin and Marburger were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team a season ago.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Baylor hosts No. 5 Texas on #BaylorLights Night Friday at 6 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center. Fans will get a free glow baton to help light up the arena at the door.
