Bears finish 6-2 in Big 12 road action in 2018
THE RUNDOWN
LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor volleyball won its sixth consecutive Big 12 match (18-7, 10-4 Big 12) with a 3-1 victory over Texas Tech (16-11, 5-8 Big 12) Monday night at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.
The Bears close out their Big 12 road schedule with a 6-2 record, one short of matching last year's program record of seven road wins in league play.
With double-digit blocks for the third time in four matches, Baylor held Texas Tech to a .096 hitting percentage.
Junior Shelly Fanning and sophomore Yossiana Pressley tied for the match lead with 16 kills apiece while senior Aniah Philo contributed 11 for the Bears.
Defensively, Fanning matched a career-high nine blocks while junior Braya Hunt set a new career high with a team-high 14 digs. Freshman Shanel Bramschreiber led all players with a season-high three service aces.
In set one, the Bears took the lead at the media timeout after Fanning and sophomore Hannah Lockin combined for the block at 15-12. Bramschreiber kept the Bears in front with an ace, and another block closed out the opener, 25-22.
In set two, BU took a 15-14 lead after a Fanning kill and then extended its lead to two after an overpass kill by junior Gia Milana. Texas Tech came back and used a service ace to get to set point and eventually win the set, 25-23.
Baylor came out fast in set three and used a Pressley kill to go up 10-5. Texas Tech used an ace to pull within three at 21-18, but another block gave BU the advantage, 25-20.
BU did not let up in set four and used Bramschreiber's third ace to lead 11-7. Baylor's 14th block of the match ended the night, 25-17.
