Bears secure six-point weekend with golden goal over Cyclones

THE RUNDOWN
AMES, Iowa – Baylor soccer (11-4-0, 4-1-0 Big 12) took all 104 minutes to fight back and close its regular season road schedule with a 2-1 (2OT) win at Iowa State (2-11-2, 0-4-1 Big 12) on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

Taking large advantages in shots (28-10) and shots on goal (12-2), while working back to a 9-9 draw on corner kicks, Baylor ended up having to claw back into the match after surrendering a quick goal after halftime.

Iowa State struck first, sneaking behind the Baylor backline to drive home the first goal of the match in the 48th minute to go up 1-0, just the second goal allowed in regulation in BU's five Big 12 matches this season.

The Bears responded just over 20 minutes later, with Jackie Crowther taking a corner kick opportunity to find Giuliana Cunningham.

Cunningham headed home the equalizer goal to tie the match at 1-1 in the 69th minute.

Holding at 1-1 at the end of regulation, BU couldn't capitalize on a 5-0 edge in shots and 2-0 lead in corners in the first overtime period, moving the match into the second OT.

With both teams getting chances in the second extra time period, it was BU that finally broke free at the 104th minute mark.

Taylor Moon bounced loose of the ISU defenders, lasering in a shot from the top left of the penalty box that laced through to the back-right corner of the net, giving BU the 2-1 victory in Ames.

STAT OF THE MATCH
3 – the number of Baylor scorers who have notched multiple game-winning goals on the season, with Taylor Moon joining Giuliana Cunningham and Camryn Wendlandt. Freshmen scorers have now accounted for 10 of Baylor's 31 goals on the season.

NOTES
* Baylor and Iowa State met for the 25th time, with the Bears improving to 16-7-2 in the series and 5-2-0 under head coach Paul Jobson.

* Taylor Moon scored her third goal of the season, bumping her season point total up to nine.

* Jackie Crowther added a point on an assist, taking her season assist count up to five.

* Giuliana Cunningham moved into a two-way tie with Camryn Wendlandt for second on the team in scoring, picking up her fifth goal on the season.

* The Bears continue to score at a clip that ranks them among the most productive offenses in the country, scoring at least one goal for 15-straight matches, the longest streak to start a season since the program's 1996 inaugural season (scored in all 21 matches).

Baylor returns home for the final four matches of the regular season, starting with an Oct. 12 matchup with Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. CT at Betty Lou Mays Field.
