Soccer Announces Team Awards from 2015 Season

WACO, Texas -- Baylor soccer recently held its annual team banquet and handed out team awards from the 2015 season.

Four awards were given away at the banquet: Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Hunemuller Award and MVP. Rookie forward Lauren Piercy was honored as Offensive MVP after she collected Big 12 Freshman of the Year, second-team All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Freshman Team accolades. The Amarillo, Texas, native with 13 points on a team-high six goals and one assist along with four game-winners in 17 matches and three starts. She was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice (Oct. 27 and Sept. 22) to become just the second in program history to earn the honor twice in a season (Ginny Rosario-Tull, 2001). From Sept. 18 through Oct. 2 she had a four-game goal streak, which tied for fourth-longest in program history. She ended the season one goal shy of fifth place for most goals by a BU freshman in a season, tied for the second most game-winners by a BU freshman in a season and tied for seventh on BU's single-season game-winners list.

The Defensive MVP went to junior defender Lindsay Burns for the second straight season. The Yakima, Wash., native played in all 19 matches for the Bears and started 17, compiling one assist and 1,619 minutes played while taking on each opponent's best offensive player and helping Baylor allow just 0.83 goals per match.

Seniors Hadley Young and McKenna Martin earned the Hunemuller Award, given annually to the team's best players' player. Both played in all 19 matches for the Bears. A defender from Belton, Texas, Young tallied 814 minutes played while helping hold opponents to 0.83 goals per match. On Tuesday, Young received the Big 12 Dr. Gerald Lage Award, the league's highest academic honor. A defender/forward from Abilene, Texas, Martin set career highs with 19 starts, four goals, two assists and 10 points on the season after entering 2015 with zero career points.

Forward Bri Campos was named MVP after she started all 19 games with four goals, three assists, 11 points, two penalty kick conversions in as many attempts and one game-winner in 1,749 minutes played. For her career, the Centennial, Colo. native ranks first in minutes played (6,728), seventh in game-winning goals (7), tied for seventh in assists (13), ninth in points (51) and tied for ninth in goals (19).
