Men's Tennis Loses At No. 8 Oklahoma

THE RUNDOWN
NORMAN, Okla. -
The 37th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 8 Oklahoma Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

The Bears (14-10, 1-2 Big 12) lost a tightly contested doubles point and then dropped three straight-set singles matches to lose to the Sooners (13-8, 2-1 Big 12).

Baylor and Oklahoma duked it out in doubles play, with BU opening up 4-3 leads on all courts early in the match. Senior Julian Lenz and junior Tyler Stayer struck first with a 6-4 win on court three over Andre Biro and Maxime Mora. The BU duo is now 2-0 in Big 12 play.

Then Oklahoma tied up doubles play after No. 46 Axel Alvarez-Llamas and Andrew Harris took a 6-4 win over No. 82 junior Max Tchoutakian and freshman Tommy Podvinski at the top of the lineup. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak over ranked opponents in conference action for the Bears.

Minutes later, senior Felipe Rios and freshman Jimmy Bendeck trailed 5-4 and came back to tie up the game at 30-all. Oklahoma's Spencer Papa and Alex Ghilea took the next two points to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court two.

In singles play, Bendeck dropped a 6-0, 6-0 loss to No. 46 Ghilea on court four. Then, Stayer fought back in set two but eventually fell 6-1, 6-3 to Mora on court six.

Oklahoma clinched the match after Harris defeated No. 82 Tchoutakian at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-0.

NOTABLES:
- Oklahoma now leads the all-time series over Baylor, 25-20.
- The Bears have now dropped five-straight matches to the Sooners.
- Baylor is now 2-6 after dropping the doubles point.
- Baylor was shutout for the second time in 2016 and the first time since Feb. 12 against Ohio State.
- Julian Lenz and Tyler Stayer are now 2-0 in Big 12 doubles play at the No. 3 spot.

Baylor travels to nearby Stillwater, Okla. to face No. 14 Oklahoma State Sunday at 3:30 p.m. CT. The match against OSU will be televised on FS2 as part of the USTA's College Match Day series.
