WACO, Texas - Baylor volleyball's Katie Staiger was voted to the 2016 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I All-America Second Team, announced Wednesday morning by the AVCA and voted on by the organization's All-America Committee of head coaches from around the country.

Staiger becomes the first player in Baylor history to earn a spot on one of the three, 14-member All-America teams, with the two previous All-Americans, Taylor Barnes (2009) and Anna Breyfogle (2009), both earning Honorable Mention honors.

Staiger's selection ices one of the greatest seasons in program history for the redshirt junior, crushing the Baylor record for single-season kills and finishing with the second-most kills ever by a Big 12 hitter.

The Plano, Texas, native earned AVCA All-Region and All-Big 12 first team honors after leading the Big 12 in kills, points, kills/set, and points/set, while ranking in the top-four nationally in all four categories.

Staiger paced the country in total attacks, taking a jaw-dropping 1,773 swings this season.

A key driving force behind Baylor's remarkable season, Staiger helped the Bears finish 22-12, overall, and 9-7 in Big 12 play. BU earned its first 20-win season since 2012 and the most wins since the 2009 team won 24.

Baylor was one of three Big 12 schools to land a student-athlete on the All-America teams, joined by Texas' Ebony Nwanebu (first team), Micaya White (first team), and Chloe Collins (second team), Kansas' Kelsie Payne (first team) and Ainise Havili (third team), and Kansas State's Katie Brand (third team).

The Bears ended the 2016 season in the NCAA Tournament, the first postseason berth for the program since 2011. BU upset No. 14 San Diego in the opening round before falling to the 10-seed and No. 8-ranked UCLA in the second round.

The All-America Teams were selected for the 36th time by the organization, with the awards to be presented on Dec. 16, 2016, in Columbus, Ohio, at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet.
