WACO, Texas - First year Baylor head volleyball coach Ryan McGuyre and the Bears won three of four matches in the team's final spring playing date in Dallas at the Convention Center Saturday.

The Bears fell to UTSA before rattling off three straight wins over North Texas, Big 12 foe Oklahoma and Texas A&M. The Roadrunners defeated Baylor two sets to none, before the Bears got on a roll to sweep UNT 2-0, beat the Sooners 2-1, and defeated the Aggies 2-1.

"It was a great way to conclude our spring competition. Morgan Reed really stood out in making some great choices and delivering the ball to the right people in the right place at the right time," said McGuyre. "Tola [Itiola] was very active blocking today and took over the net blocking in all three of our wins.

"Katie [Staiger] and Andie [Malloy] found a rhythm offensively, and I was pleased with the power they were attacking with today. They were both very difficult to defend."

Baylor returns 12 players from the 2014 roster and Mackenzie Mayo will return to the Bears after sitting out last season.

McGuyre went on about the team's performance Saturday, singling out the team members' improvement.

"Ashley [Myer] stabilized the defense and was especially good in lining up the outside hitters. I was very pleased with Amanda [Lesikar] and her composure and progress this spring," he said. "She did an excellent job managing her swings and was our most reliable hitter when we where out of system. She made some great swings today and had a lot of smart shots that really made it difficult for opponents to defend."

Lesikar is among five newcomers that will join Baylor in 2015 that also includes Ashley Fritcher, Kelsey Slechta, Shelly Fanning and Jordan Vail.

"I thought we turned the corner today in how we approach the game and understanding the little things within the rallies that lead to points," said McGuyre. "We will need to continue to execute these plays with more permanent as we head to Italy and prepare for a great 2015 season."
