THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - In a match that lasted less than two hours, the fifth-ranked Baylor men's team (8-2) blanked No. 12 UCLA, 4-0, Sunday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The match was scheduled to be played outdoors, but inclement weather forced the action indoors. The venue change had little effect on the Bears as they overwhelmed the Bruins (6-5) with a doubles point win and victories at No. 1, 5 and 6 singles in only one hour and 59 minutes.
In doubles action, Julian Lenz and Diego Galeano foreshadowed the shutout that was to come, blanking Karue Sell and Joseph Di Giulio, 6-0, on court two. The Bears recorded three breaks, including one at love to win the match in 18 minutes.
To clinch the point, Vince Schneider and Felipe Rios dispatched of Austin Rapp and Dennis Mkrtchian, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Schneider carried the momentum over building a 5-0 lead in the first set against Sell on court 4. The Bruin responded with four-straight game wins, before Schneider broke to close out the first set, 6-4. The sophomore Bear went on to win the second set 6-1 to give BU a 2-0 lead in a 58-minute match.
Rios started out at blistering pace as well. He knocked off Di Giulio, 6-1, 6-4, at the bottom of the lineup to put the Bears up 3-0. The win improved Rios' dual-match mark to 6-1.
The biggest upset of the day was recorded by 10th-ranked Julian Lenz as he took out No. 2 Mackenzie McDonald at the top of lineup by a 6-4, 6-2 margin to secure the shutout. It was the first lost in dual-match play for McDonald, after starting the year 7-0.

TOP QUOTE #1
"We've had such a series with UCLA and we know how good they are. To get any win right now is great, but to get out of here without too much stress was a real credit to our guys. I thought they competed well." - head coach Matt Knoll on the match
TOP QUOTE #2
""I think that's huge for him. I'm proud of him. I thought Julian tactically played a really good match. I don't think his ball striking was his best, but tactically he was 10 out of 10. That's a credit to him. I think he's grown and understands that every opponent is different and that sometimes you have to approach them in a different way." - Knoll on Julian Lenz's win
TOP QUOTE #3
"Our match outside on Friday was very windy, so you had to move a lot out there. That helped me incredibly today. I just moved well and was able to swing at every ball." - Vince Schneider on the victory
