Head Coach Art Briles

Opening Statement:
"Another week, a regular week, seems like it might be a dry one after the last four or five weeks that Mother Nature has blessed us with. It's wonderful rain though. When you live in Texas you never complain about rain, so no complaints on our end. I remember back in the summer when there were 40-something days without a drop. So you take it, you appreciate it, and you cherish it, if you're not playing football. Other than that, it's awfully good to be around. Just really quick on the other night, it's what we anticipated -- a tough-fought football game against a good football team. It came down to who was going to make a good play late, because it turned into a slugfest where one play could probably determine the game and that's essentially what happened. So we addressed that with our players yesterday, we're moving forward, we have a great opponent coming in, the University of Texas. We are glad to be back home, I need a very lively and energetic stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m. to help our seniors finish out. My whole thing is all about our senior class, and paying those guys back for what they've done for this University from a local, regional, and national standpoint. You look back to the guys who have been here five years -- they've seen Baylor win a Heisman Trophy with RG3 in 2011, they've been involved in two Big 12 Championships, and they have the possibility to be a part of four-out-of-five 10-win seasons, and potentially play in a New Year's six game. So that's a big, big deal, and I feel very indebted to them, and I certainly want to do whatever I can to send them out with a victory this Saturday."

On both of Texas' QBs who could potentially start:
"They're both really good. I actually heard that [Tyrone] Swoopes was going to be the starter, but they're both very good athletes. They're a very good football team. I mean, look down Oklahoma's win/loss column and when you get to the "L" you'll see who that came against. So they're very, very capable and talented as a team. Those two guys bring a lot of different things to the table, and athleticism is high on that list. Playmaking ability is high on the list, and experience in Swoopes' case. He's been their off-and-on starter for about two years, and I would guess [Jerrod] Heard has started maybe eight of their games this year, so those are two very, very good quarterbacks."

On seniors, especially on the offensive line, and how key they've been in winning games:
"It's always key to have guys who have cohesiveness with one another and understand each other. We actually had a couple of breakdowns the other night in critical situations, which is unusual for us. But overall through the years, a lot of those guys have been three- or four-year starters. Spencer [Drango] might have more starts than anyone else on the team, I don't know, [Jarell] Broxton has been a starter for the last two years, [Blake] Muir is the same way, and Pat [Colbert] is an off-and-on two-year starter, so those guys have all contributed and helped us get to this point. Now we're at the point where we can finish really strong and that's what we're going to do."

On Baylor's 11 turnovers in the last three games:
"There's all sorts of things you can do [to eliminate turnovers], now whether that transfers into a football game is a different story. It's hard to simulate game-like activity in practice. If you've ever watched a practice, then watched a game, they're entirely different, especially when it comes to the difference of the physicality levels. So just like everybody in America, everyone loves drills, but when the lights are on, and the opponent is determined, that's when you test yourself. Now, some turnovers are self-inflicted, some are caused by the opponent making plays. There are a bunch of guys out there playing the game at a high rate of speed. But that hasn't been a cause for what has happened here over the last two or three weeks, as we've been really clean for probably a two-and-a-half-year period."

On potentially playing in the Sugar Bowl if they win this week:
"Well, I'd be running as fast as I could to get that berth, because it's worth chasing. But right now we have a job to do Saturday, and that could really be a great accomplishment for our football team, because if you're not going to finish first, then finish second. I think that would show a lot of consistency over the years."

On Kendal Briles being named a finalist for the Broyles Award:
"Personally, it doesn't mean anything, but professionally I just think it's a continuation for what we've been able to do over the last five years. This is certainly a great deal of obligation to continue that trend. You're stepping into a situation where expectations are extremely high, and Kendal's done a good job of meeting them. So that's the good part."

On Saturday basically being Texas' bowl game:
"Yeah, I definitely think it's dangerous to face any team, but when you face a team this talented in their situation, then yeah, that's always something to take note of. We just have to be us, that's the deal. It's not about the opponent -- each week it's about us. Baylor football doing what we do, as well as we can do it. If we do that, then everything else will take care of itself, so we're really concentrating on making sure that we chase the goals and aspirations that we need to reach, and reach them, and do it in a manner that allows us to win the football game. That's what it's all about with us."

On if it is on the seniors to help the team bounce back from last week's loss:
"I don't think it's on them. I understand what you're saying. It's on me and it's on us to help them. That is the way I look at it. It's not on them to start the car and drive it. It's on us to get it going, get it warm, and open the door for them and say 'come on, we appreciate what you've done for us; we're going to take care of you.' So that's kind of the way I look at it. If there's a back, they're on ours."

On what TCU postgame was were like with team leaders and how they recover from tough loss:
"It was good. We talked about it yesterday. They were all, of course, frustrated, disappointed, but alive. That's the main thing. If you're alive, you can have hope, you can have goals, and you can have purpose. That's where we are. We have a bunch of that in front of us. We can have a tremendously fulfilling season by taking care of the business at hand. That's the main thing we talked about: let's handle what we can handle - what's in front of us. We can't change what's behind us, but we have a chance to make a difference in what's in front of us, so let's take care of what's in front of us. And the only way to do that is to let the past go. I've always had a saying that the past is last. Don't talk to me about the good win in 2011, because what bearing does that have on us today? Let's talk about what we can do today to help us be better tomorrow. That's the way we've always approached it."

On if he or Kendal Briles has to spend more time with QB Chris Johnson after a game like TCU:
"We do, quite honestly. The good thing and the bad thing about the other night is that it's really the first time we've had a chance to get Chris on tape, in an entire game situation, and have a chance to let him evaluate himself and allow us to evaluate him and then talk about cause and effect. That part of it allows us to coach him. It's different coaching someone in practice than in a game situation. We had a good game situation for him. The elements may not have been what he wanted or what we wanted, but they were what they were and so we coached off of it. We were very productive yesterday - I fully expect a lot of growth. It's kind of like your first game to your second game at the beginning of the season; the most improvement comes from game one to game two. In our minds, this is his game two. So we're excited about his journey, we really are, and we have a lot of faith and believe in Chris. A bunch. It's not vapor. He's earned it. We're excited about where he can take us this Saturday and where we can help him get to."

On how Chris was after the TCU game:
"That's an interesting question. It's a very insightful question, quite honestly. Especially at that position, because the quarterback position is like none other. You have to have a special DNA there and you have to be able to handle constructive criticism and unconstructive criticism, quite honestly. You don't get excited about the praise and you try to learn from the criticism. The thing that helps Chris is that he has a very calm demeanor about him. He's almost unflappable in that situation. So what we have to do as a staff is make sure that we and he hit the right buttons at the right time to make his athleticism show. He feels dejected, disappointed, but now he's driven and determined like the rest of us."

On if the game Friday can be used to help the future of Baylor football:
"I don't know if it will be a 'Remember the Alamo' call or anything like that, but to answer your question, yeah, 100 percent. I'm more motivated this week than I was two weeks ago, I'll tell you that. Two weeks ago I was feeling 59, now I feel 57. I get to feel that way for about two more days. So yeah, it can help. It definitely will be a point of emphasis throughout the next 11-12 months as far as motivation, determination, taking care of business, finishing the job, assignment to detail and all the factors that go into winning a football game and becoming a better person."

On if any of the previously injured players are expected to play this week:
"I think Beau [Blackshear] is going to be back. [Byron] Bonds was back and available last week probably at about 85 percent, but I think he'll be about 100 percent. Orion [Stewart] has a chance to be back. Gus [Penning] is still questionable, he really had a good shoulder he hurt a couple weeks ago. Jordan [Feuerbacher] has come in and done a nice job for us. I think those are the main guys now. Shock [Linwood], Shock was not as good as we thought he would be. He didn't practice until last Wednesday, and he tried to go but he wasn't himself, so we'll see how he progresses throughout the week."

On Baylor winning four of its last five games against Texas and what it means to the program:
"We don't really look at it from that standpoint, we really don't. We know everything is cyclical. We just try to win each week regardless of who the opponent is. If you get caught up in making something professional personal, then you spend all your time getting unhappy or happy. You can get that without making it personal. We're honestly just trying to win 10 games and go to a good bowl game. That's our main objective. They just happen to be the opponent this week. We didn't set the schedule up, somebody else did and said we're playing them late. We played them the fourth game last year, so that's just the way it's set up."

Chris Johnson, QB

On the loss at TCU:
"It was pretty hard to take that loss, but there are a lot of things we learned. First, we learned that we're never out of it. No matter how ugly the game may have looked, we were never out of it as a team, so I was pleased with that part of it. But the main thing we learned was just to focus on the details."

On possibly going to the Sugar Bowl:
"That's still big for us, and that's what we're aiming for going into this week. We just want to go in focused and make sure we are ready to do what we do. We know they'll come out fighting hard like they always do, so we have to be really sharp."

On his mental state:
"It was definitely tough. Right after the game I was upset with myself mainly because there were a lot of things that I feel like I could have done differently or done better to help us win that game. But going back and watching film, it gives you a different perspective on things. My head is clear mentally. It's done, so now our focus is on beating Texas."

Corey Coleman, WR

On how they're approaching the Texas game:
"The season is not over. We can still get to a really good bowl game, so we're taking this game just like any other game."

On what he told the team after the TCU loss:
"Everyone was sad. I was sad and heartbroken about the situation. But I just told them that we still have football to play. It's hard to win, and we've won a lot of football games this season. So now we just have to beat Texas and get to the Sugar Bowl."

Spencer Drango, OT

On moving forward:
"It made it easier with what else happened this weekend, because win or lose this weekend, we still would have come in second just based off the events. It still stinks that we lost, but we have to clear it and move on. We have a big game this weekend and it's senior night, so hopefully we can send all the seniors off on the right note."

On potentially making the Sugar Bowl:
"That's a huge bowl. It's still part of the New Year's six, so I don't think we're going to get to one of our goals, which was to be in the playoffs, but a New Year's six bowl is still really, really good. But we do have to take care of business because Texas is a really good team and they've been getting better as the season has progressed."

Travon Blanchard, NB

On the loss at TCU:
"It was a tough loss against TCU, but we can't dwell on it. We have a tough opponent in Texas this week. We're going to be their last game, so we're expecting everything. We have to get ready."

On Texas:
"We know they're going to pull out everything for us, so we can't play with emotions going into this Texas game. We just have to go out there and execute, and whatever happens with the bowl situation happens."
