Nov. 24, 2015 WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor football sophomore receiver KD Cannon was named Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week on Tuesday. The speedster has now earned weekly awards on back-to-back days.
Already named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Cannon's accolades come after he helped lead the Bears to their first win over No. 4 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma, since 1939, snapping an 11-game losing streak in road games against the Cowboys.
Cannon had 210 yards receiving and two touchdowns on five catches in the win. He helped jump start the BU offense that tallied 700 yards for the game by hauling in TDs of 59 and 71 yards. The first score came in the first quarter to put the Bears up 14-0. Cannon added the 71-yard TD catch in the third quarter to give BU a 38-14 advantage. Cannon's 210 receiving yards were the fifth-most in a game in program history, third-highest in a Big 12 game this year and 10th-most by an FBS player in 2015. It was also the seventh 200-yard receiving game by a Baylor player. Cannon joined Corey Coleman as the only players in program history to record multiple games with 200-plus receiving yards.
Cannon is the third Bear to be honored with a weekly accolade by the Tyler Rose Award this season. He joins Corey Coleman, who garnered the recognition on Sept. 15, and Seth Russell, who earned the distinction on Oct. 20.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
The seventh-ranked Bears now travel to play 15th-ranked TCU Friday in Fort Worth at 6:30 p.m. CT. That game will be televised by ESPN. To stay current on all things Baylor Football, follow the team on Twitter: @BUFootball.
