OMAHA, Neb. ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" For a second-straight year, Baylor offensive lineman Spencer Drango was named one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, the Greater Omaha Sports Committee announced on Thursday.

The Outland Trophy has been awarded to the best interior lineman in college football on offense or defense since 1946. This is the third year that the award has recognized semifinalists.

Drango, a senior, is the leader for a Baylor offensive line that blocks for the nation's top offense as the Bears are averaging 637.9 yards per game and scoring 54.8 points per contest.

The Cedar Park, Texas, product has helped Baylor's rushing attack rank fifth in the country with 292.2 yards per contest. Drango is also a key component in helping the Bears give up only 1.22 sacks per game, which ranks 22nd-best nationally.

Drango has a team-best 44 career starts and has produced a team-high coaches' grade average of 90.3 percent through the first nine games of 2015. He has had at least three knockdowns in every game this year and has a team-best total of 36.

On the Outland Trophy's Schneider Scale, a ranking of the top interior lineman in the country, Drango currently sits third behind Penn State's Austin Johnson and UCLA's Kenny Clark. The BU senior was named a midseason All-American by eight national media outlets.

Before Drango's inclusion last season, Baylor's Cyril Richardson was named a semifinalist and then a finalist for the honor in 2013. Before Richardson, Baylor last had a finalist for the honor in 1991 with defensive lineman Santana Dotson.

Drango is part of an offensive line unit that is a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, which goes to the top o-line unit in the country.

The senior has already been honored as a Rotary Lombardi semifinalist, a Wuerffel Trophy semifinalist, a Campbell Trophy finalist and a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.

The semifinalists were selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), in a call of its 2015 All-America Committee. The other five semifinalists up for the award include: Joshua Garnett, Stanford offensive guard; Ryan Kelly, Alabama center; A'Shawn Robinson, Alabama defensive tackle; Jason Spriggs, Indiana offensive tackle; and Ronnie Stanley, Notre Dame offensive tackle.

The field for the Outland Trophy will be reduced to three with an announcement on Nov. 24 on ESPNU. The winner of the 70th Outland Trophy will be revealed on Dec. 10 on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards, for the first time live from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

BU is off to an 8-1 start to the season and a 5-1 league start. The Bears are ranked No. 10 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll, along with the College Football Playoff rankings.
