WACO, Texas - Despite career nights for seniors Andie Malloy and Amy Rosenbaum on Senior Day, Baylor volleyball (16-11, 4-9 Big 12) dropped a three-set match, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23, to the Oklahoma Sooners (8-16, 2-10 Big 12) on Sunday in the Ferrell Center.
OU led nearly start to finish in the first two sets, with the Bears never able to gain any defensive advantage. Despite a .305 hitting effort, OU's .374 mark was too much for BU to overcome.
A second set hitting effort of .370, the match-high for Baylor, couldn't hold up against a .556 output by OU.
In the third set, the Bears fought off an early 9-5 deficit to claw back and take a three point lead, at 14-11. Trading points with the Sooners through much of the set, BU was hanging on to a 19-16 lead, needing to take the set to force a fourth. But the Sooners rattled off a 3-0 run and eventually overran the Bears to close out the match at 25-23.

BAYLOR HEAD COACH Ryan McGuyre
On the match results...
"That was definitely a rough match. Andie swung really well. It was such a bummer because what I thought we needed to do to win this match was defend, but the defense didn't show up. We have struggled to defend the middles all year. That's something that we have to get better at. It is a matter of our middles just being more physical than our opponent's middles. We were pretty even in the outside hitter battle, but OU's middles are hitting .470-.500."
On Andie Malloy's performance...
"Andie had a very good night, offensively. She took some good swings and she was aggressive. It's fun to see her hitting like that. If we are going to finish strong, she is going to need to continue hitting like that and continue to block, dig, and pass like she has been doing."
