WACO, Texas -- Baylor soccer resumes Big 12 play with a pair of home matches this weekend against Oklahoma and No. 17 Texas Tech. The Bears (7-5-1, 2-1-0) face the Sooners (8-5-1, 1-1-2) on Friday at 8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Plus and the Red Raiders (8-2-4, 1-1-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX Sports Southwest.

Winners of seven of their last eight matches, the Bears are coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in double overtime with seven seconds left at Kansas last Friday. OU enters the weekend after tying West Virginia at home and falling 1-0 at Kansas. TTU comes to Waco after winning 3-0 at home over TCU and falling 4-1 at home to WVU.

Baylor Bear Foundation Preview
By Jerry Hill

After seeing the Baylor soccer team's seven-game winning streak end at Kansas on a golden goal with seven seconds left, coach Paul Jobson told his players to take 10 minutes "and then we're moving on."

"You don't have time to mope about it," said Jobson, whose Bears (7-5-1, 2-1-0) host Oklahoma (8-5-2, 1-1-2) at 8 p.m. Friday at Betty Lou Mays Field. "The reality is that the majority of that game, we played well enough to win. That's the bad thing about our sport is you can outplay a team, you can underplay a team, and it doesn't dictate that result."

Baylor had a 23-2 edge in goals during that seven-game winning streak and came within seven seconds of its fourth consecutive shutout. Despite a 22-18 in shots and a career-high six saves by goalkeeper Sara Martinson, though, the Bears fell 1-0 in double overtime on a header goal off a free kick.

"There are things from every game, win or lose, that you can take from it and get better at," Jobson said. "Our philosophy is getting better every day. We were able to take quite a few things from that game, not because we lost. I do think, obviously, there's a little bigger sting when you walk off the field knowing you very easily could have had three points (for a win), definitely could have had one (for a tie), and you walk off with nothing."

A junior, Martinson ranks 2nd in the Big 12 and 36th nationally with a 0.686 goals-against average. She has posted four solo shutouts and given up seven goals while recording 19 saves.

"She made at least two saves that kept the game from being over before it was over," Jobson said. "We all know she's come back from a massive injury and worked her tail off to get that starting spot. I'm just really proud of her and what she's been able to do."

Like Baylor, Oklahoma has gotten key contributions from freshmen. Kaylee Dao is tied for the team lead with four goals and tied atop the Big 12 statistics with three game-winners.

OU also lost 1-0 at Kansas after a 0-0 double-overtime tie against fourth-ranked West Virginia. The overall series is tied 7-7-5, with the Sooners beating the Bears on penalty kicks in last year's Big 12 Tournament semifinals and Baylor pulling out a 2-1 win in Norman.

"They're a good team with some really good pieces," Jobson said. "(OU coach Matt Potter) does a really good job organizing his team and they've beaten some really good teams."

In a quick turnaround, the Bears host 17th-ranked Texas Tech (8-2-4, 1-1-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday, with both matches being televised. The Red Raiders are coming off a 4-1 loss at home to West Virginia.

Tech head coach Tom Stone was formerly with the Atlanta Beat of the Women's United Soccer Association pro league, where he coached Baylor volunteer coach Marci Jobson.

"That's always kind of a fun, personal rivalry between the two of us," Jobson said, "which is probably why that rivalry is a little bigger for our team than most, just because we know each other. They're fast all over the field, they've got some great talent."

Baylor's head coach said if the game situation allows him the chance to "make some changes to preserve yourself for Sunday," he will.

"But your intent is to do whatever you have to do to win Friday," he said, "and then you try to pick up the pieces and do what you can to win Sunday. You're not saving anything. You're playing like it's a one-game weekend."
