THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The sixth-ranked Baylor men's tennis team (2-1) tallied its second-straight shutout in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-0 victory over No. 40 Drake (3-1) Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

The win on a windy afternoon in Waco propelled the Bears into the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago, Ill., Feb. 13-16.

Baylor won the doubles point for the third-straight match as Diego Galeano and Julian Lenz rolled to a 6-0 victory over Matt Frost and Ravi Patel on court 2. Vince Schneider and Felipe Rios clinched the point for BU with a 6-3 win against Ben Stride and Bayo Philips on court 3.

In singles, the fifth-ranked Lenz dominated No. 46 Alen Salibasic, 6-1, 6-1, at the top of the lineup to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

From that point, the remaining five matches were all pushed into a third set, because Drake had captured four of five first sets.

A full 38 minutes after Lenz's win, the 121st-ranked Rios bounced back from an opening-set loss to blow past Stride, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 on court five.

Meanwhile at the No. 2 spot, the 26th-ranked Tony Lupieri held off No. 30 Ben Lott, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to secure the victory for Baylor.

TOP QUOTE #1
"I think winning the doubles was a big point, but Julian's point was every bit as big. Those are the two places where we were best today. Every place else we had to fight. I'm happy to come out of the day with a 4-0 win. This will be great experience for us. It's not the conditions for perfect tennis, but that's sports. You're not always going to get the perfect conditions." - head coach Matt Knoll on the match

TOP QUOTE #2
"The National Indoor is important for our schedule. We schedule it knowing that we're going to go there and play three or four really good teams. It's good that we'll be there, because we're going to have some opportunities to have our hands full, and we need that. We need to be pushed and we'll definitely be pushed there." - Knoll on going to the National Team Indoor Championships

TOP QUOTE #3
"Our guys are tough. They're resilient and they're going to battle because they don't want to lose a match. When the chips are down, they're going to dig in and find a way win. They did that today, which is what I expect from them, and I think you're going to see a lot of that this year." - Knoll on falling down early in singles

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will host No. 73 Louisiana-Lafayette Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
