WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team will play in two tournaments this weekend to open the 2014 fall season. Tony Lupieri will join Felipe Rios in Houston for the Rice Fall Invitational Friday through Sunday, while junior Julian Lenz will head to Napa, Calif., to take part in the Napa Valley Challenger, an USTA Pro Circuit event starting on Saturday.

Lupieri will lead the Bears in the 64-man singles main draw as the No. 2 seed, while Felipe Rios will be competing as the No. 8 seed. The two will also team up in the 32-team doubles draw and compete as the No.1 seeded team at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.

Lupieri will receive a bye in the first round and will face off against either Eric Fritz-Randolph of SMU or Daniel Echeverry of UT Arlington in the round of 32 later on Friday.

Lupieri is currently ranked No.112 in the ITA preseason rankings after tallying a 31-9 record on the year in 2013-14 and a 17-5 mark in dual-match play for the Bears.

Rios is set to square off against Sam Meessen of Nicholls State in the opening round on Friday. The winner will then proceed to play the winner of the match between Jake Rother of UTSA and Tony Russell of SMU later Friday afternoon.

Rios will be playing his first collegiate match, after redshirting last season to retain eligibility.

In doubles, the BU duo will receive a first-round bye and face the winner of Julio Olaya and Fitz-Randolph of SMU and Vasileios Stavropolos and Chris Schindler of Nebraska at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Meanwhile, Lenz will be on the West Coast for the Napa Valley 50k Challenger, a USTA Men's Professional Pro Circuit Challenger Series Event. This elite tournament is one of 16 events on the Challenger Pro Circuit series of events in the United States.

Lenz is currently ranked No. 1 in the ITA singles rankings.

The tournament will take place at the Napa Valley Country Club.
