Dec. 26, 2014 WACO, Texas - Baylor soccer volunteer assistant coach Anna Maddox has been promoted to assistant coach, the program announced Friday.
"Anna has been a huge part of the success of this program over the last few years as a volunteer and we are extremely excited to solidify her role with this team as a full-time assistant," said Baylor head coach Paul Jobson. "She fits all aspects of what we are doing here as a staff for our student-athletes athletically, academically, spiritually and socially."
Maddox first joined the program as a team manager in 2012 and spent the two seasons since as volunteer assistant coach, working primarily with the goalkeepers. Her collegiate playing experience and coaching knowledge have had a very positive impact on the program. Along with her player development skills, Maddox has helped the Bears set program record lows for goals allowed in two of her three seasons on staff and has aided BU in collecting 35 shutouts in 55 games since 2012.
As a player, Maddox was a four-year starter at the University of Mobile (2007-11). In that time, she was a three-time NAIA All-American goalie, four-time SSAC first-team all-conference selection and two-time SSAC Defensive Player of the Year. In the summer of her junior season, Maddox played on the Buxmont Torch, a WPSL semi-professional team.
Maddox graduated from Mobile in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance and Exercise Science with a concentration in Teacher Education. While earning her degree, Maddox spent two seasons (2009-10) as the head women's soccer coach at the Alabama School of Math and Science. In her first year on the job, she led the Dragons to the first undefeated season in school history.
In the 2013-14 summers, Maddox served as an instructor at the EXACT Soccer ID Camp for elite prospects. She's also been primarily responsible for running Baylor's soccer camps over the last three years. She graduated in May 2013 from Baylor with a Master of Arts degree in Sports Pedagogy.
Coinciding with the move, the program will no longer have a husband-wife co-head coaching duo. Paul Jobson will take over as head coach and Marci Jobson, the program's all-time wins leader (101-70-33 overall, 77-43-24 at Baylor), will be the volunteer assistant coach. Assistant coach Chuck Codd will remain in his position as the trio has been coaching together since their days at Northern Illinois University in 2007 before coming to Baylor in 2008.
"Baylor is blessed to have a soccer coaching staff that operates a model program which nurtures our student-athletes so they thrive athletically, academically, spiritually and socially," said Baylor Vice President and Athletics Director Ian McCaw. "This staff reorganization will put our coaching staff in position to be even more effective and thereby position Baylor Soccer for even greater success in the years to come."
