Nov. 18, 2014 Full Release: 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball Team
WACO, Texas - The Baylor volleyball team placed 10 on the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 first team, the league announced Tuesday, and that was more than any other school in the league. A total of 51 student-athletes were named to the team that honored players with cumulative 3.00 GPA's or higher.
In order to land first-team status, a student athlete must maintain a 3.20 GPA while second-team members must have a GPA between 3.00 to 3.19. In addition, all players must have competed in at least 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
"It's a privilege to coach such outstanding people who display strong character and intelligence," said Baylor head coach Jim Barnes. "Our teams work in the classroom has been tremendous and much credit goes to our academic advisor, Kristen Bates."
Baylor's Nicole Bardaji, Tori Cox, Sam Hill, Tola Itiola, Andie Malloy, Hope Ogden, Adrien Richburg, Amy Rosenbaum, Katie Staiger and Jordan Teel were all named to the first team. The Bears' 10 selections were a program record, passing the 2013's squad's previous record of eight.
